I found this place on Yelp and stopped in due to all the positive reviews. They were not wrong about this place. While the outside might make you question the wisdom of going inside, one you do you will find a very comfortable restaurant. The service is friendly from the moment you step in. The pizza was wonderful-crust had s good flavor, the cheese was great-not waxy like most places and the sauce was perfect. I prefer old world type pizza and this tastes more like that than the American pizzas you find. The Samaritos are an unexpected delight, not to be missed. Do yourself a favor by stopping in and trying one of their many items, you will not regret it. I will continue to work my way through their menu as everything looks wonderful.

Do yourself a favor: Come here and have the best stromboli ever. No other place even comes close to competing with my love for a Sam's stromboli. They pack it with cheese and toppings, leaving the delicious sauce on the side for you to dip into. You are in control of how much sauce you get, catering to the amount you desire with each bite. The dough they use has a great texture to it as well. I love how I take how leftovers, heat it up in my oven and have a meal equal to the one I had at the restaurant. The crust does not get soggy! Pizza is a winner here too. Salads aren't as generous as some other places are, but it will do. I can't speak for other foods here. I'm sure they are okay, but I've never been tempted to try anything but the stromboli. I have never had great service here. I never go when it is busy, but somehow people that wait on my table seem to disappear for unreasonable amounts of time. This means drinks hardly get refilled, empty plates are not promptly removed, and the bill only gets recieved after we flag someone down. I am never in a rush when I go, and I enjoy the company I am with, so slow service doesn't disappoint me too much. It's pretty dim inside the restaurant too. I am always amazed at how it feels like I am walking out of a dark cave when I leave. Try this place if you enjoy a great stromboli!

People are right....it's a dark, old building but has some of the best food ever! If I could eat here everyday I would.

I've had just about everything on the menu and it's all been delicious tonight was an exception. I tried the seafood pasta it was very bland not enough garlic. And our waitress disappeared. I had to ask another waitress to bring me some pepper flakes. Then I had to ask the same waitress if she would get our waitress so I could pay the bill. My advice stick to anything that has the red sauces. Its always been excellent

Found Sams on yelp on our way home to Columbus from Traverse City. Totally clean ladies room. Service rocked. Food awesome. Huge variety.

Excellent food. Excellent service. That's why we'll be back. Try the steak and cheese Stromboli w/ mushrooms and be sure to get some A-1. Wife still froths at the mouth when her cod is coming towards our table. We've never left this place dissatisfied. Don't worry about the old building and the parking lot that was put in around 1955. Just get in here.

Went with the family last night for some fun and good food. That is exactly what we got! Items of note: *** 10 people (including 2 children who split a meal) - the bill came to $140.00 including tip! Wow! Fantastic pricing and huge portions. Everyone took some home. *** Most of the food was excellent, the seafood pasta was not so good but by no means bad either. You must try the samarito's, they are so darned good. Little puffs of pizza dough fried I think but they are so light and delicious I couldn't really tell how they are prepared, very good. *** We did have to wait about 15 minutes but that is okay since there were so many of us. *** Service was fast and friendly but lacked efficiency. We kept having to ask for the basics like plates for the appetizers, silverware, napkins etc. a minor annoyance but the waitress was super sweet so you couldn't get mad. *** The building is in dire need of updating as it is currently looks but isn't dirty just late 70's dark and well frankly ugly. The chairs, tables and booths were probably purchased in 1972 and show the wear. The parking lot is full of deep ruts and broken asphalt. *** Very kid friendly! The little ones drinks came in cups with straws even when we asked for water for them, that was a super nice touch.

My family ate at Sam's last week for the first time. The food was excellent and very affordable. The beer selection could use a little help, but it isn't bad for such a small place. They seem to feature local wines (we didn't have any). The decor could really use an update, but it's fine for a place for the whole family to go get some good eats. The place seemed pretty kid friendly except for one minor issue: our server seemed a little confused/concerned that our 7 year old daughter had a special order the deviated from the standard kids menu - she wanted the Alfredo, but with penne noodles instead of fettuccine. The waitress acted like she needed to get permission from the kitchen for that and it might be a problem (I told her I didn't care if it cost extra or even if I had to pay the adult prices). The kitchen was able to comply with my daughter's request, but I really don't see how it should have even been a concern. Perhaps she was having a bad day. Either way, we'll be back to try it again. The food was great, the beer was cold, and the bill didn't make me cry.

I have been here many times and they don't have the best service, best pizza, best decor, fastest service, or best quality control. Although, you get a good neighborhood Italian restaurant with an overall good dining experience. I would say for the Flint area there are a only a few restaurants with better traditional style pizza/strombolis and nothing within 5 miles. - Cheap beer - good liquor selection - good traditional style pizza (better than most) - sammoritos are excellent - good strombolis - laid back setting - Excellent pretzel/bread sticks (comes with a garlic cream spread like at the old Parani's on 3rd) - Family friendly

Wow! Every visit to my parents I drive forty minutes to eat here. The pizza - more than plenty of cheese, a tasty crust, good with custom orders. The Sammaritos are not to be missed. Light and airy with a garlic oily crisp, these airy bread poofs are just amazing. Mouth watering just thinking about it. The pizza has a good tasting crisp but thick crust, meltey high quality tasty cheese, and great toppings. Also has a bar. Never a bad experience here. Friendly service, small and cozy atmosphere, could work for family dinner or an intimate date. Good drinks. My biggest problem here is running out of room in my stomach. Check in - still totally amazing, delicious, charming. Now I want a plate of Sammaritos again...

Couldn't ask for better service. Food is just mediocre at best. Do not order their pasta fagioli soup. No flavor. Pizza average. Atmosphere outdated Can't believe it got such a good rating. Has to be the excellent service

We've lived near here for 7 years, and this is the first time I've had a chance to try Sam's. I wish I'd come here sooner...the food and service were fantastic! the kid's spaghetti was huge, the homemade lasagna was some of the best i've ever had, and the pasta carbonara was so big I'll be enjoying it for another meal. The mini breadsticks (Samorito's) were awesome - next time we'll get 2 orders. All in, this is a great restaurant, I just wish I'd come here sooner!

Great value and tasty. The small Stromboli is huge and the half spaghetti dinner was plenty enough to take some for lunch the next day!

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
